Ya Lyblyu Tebya

On the tram and in underpasses a young woman recites Vladimir Orlov's Children's poem "Ya uznal, schto u menya..." ("I found out that I have...") and receives some small change in return. The patriotic verses are a declaration of love to a shared homeland, in this case the city of Donetsk. The once flourishing industrial city is now a disputed territory, as a result of which even the Donbass Arena, home to leading football club Shakhtar Donetsk, was forced to close. The football-shaped fountain in front of the stadium, bathed in sunshine, nevertheless arouses the curiosity of passers-by both young and old. Ultimately life has to go on. Suddenly however grey clouds gather overhead, soon followed by the thunder of fighter jets over the city, reminding us of the deep divisions that divide this city in the Donbass. KT
