Viktoria was born without an umbilical cord. Her mother, who wanted to abort her at any price, was unable to flee to the West due to her having been pregnant, and thus this unusual child was chosen by Communist Bulgaria's head of state Todor Zhivkov to be a kind of socialist godchild. Maya Vitkova deconstructs the periods both during and after communism, dealing with issues such as conformation, resistance, inner emigration and dogmatism, none of which vanish over night with the introduction of a new socio-economic system.
