The newly appointed village mayor Susanne rushes frantically back and forth around the village. While "the film people" have barricaded themselves behind closed doors, the power goes out in the village, an abandoned tank suddenly appears in her garden and her ex-boyfriend Bert turns up. The failed journalist is hoping for the story of his life here as the world famous James G. Johnson has announced that he is due to arrive. Meanwhile, his son Tobi starts his first job - as a driver for the production team of all things, even though he hates cars and doesn't even have a driver's license.
Captured with a static camera, dim lighting caused by a power outage and a set design rich in DDR relics, this film downplays the obvious culture clash and instead looks, at once unobtrusively and lovingly, at the lives of these villagers who, have high hopes from the big wide world’s invasion of their province as they might, find that their fates do not necessarily take the turn they hope for.
