The Jewish Film Festival Berlin & Brandenburg (JFFB) will take place for the 23rd time from 2nd to 11th July . The FilmFestival Cottbus is proud to be a partner of this  renownedfestival for the second time. The JFFB presents not only an enormous artistic range of current films , but above all differentiated, and contradictory views on Jewish everyday life, culture and history worldwide. In the context of the JFFB the FilmFestival Cottbus presents the documentary  ANGEL WAGENSTEIN: ART IS A WEAPON about the Jewish-Bulgarian film author and novelist Angel Wagenstein.  Born as a descendant of Sephardic Jews in Bulgaria, he left his home country briefly to return as an ardent communist. The excitement quickly gave way to an analytical distance - the screenwriter, who also wrote the scripts for the DEFA films "Stars", "Eolomea" and "The Little Prince", is regarded as a master of intermediate notes. Wagenstein will be, together with Andrea Simon, the director of the documentary, present at the screening on the 3rd July, 18:00 in the Berlin fsk-cnema. The film critic Jörg Taszman, also programme consultant for the FilmFestival Cottbus, will conduct the Q and A.

With Ferenc Török's "1945" and the documentary film REVERSING OBLIVION by Ann Michel and Philip Wilde (5th July., 20:00, fsk-cinema), which had its world premiere at the FilmFestival Cottbus' 2016 edition, two more films in the programme of this year's JFFB explore Eastern European subjects. The festival opens with THE HISTORY OF LOVE, the new film by the Romanian-born director Radu Mihăileanu. Among the discoveries in the program is also the Israeli cult film AVANTI POPOLO, Rafi Buakais farce about the Six Day War (and wars in general) from 1986. A visit to the JFFB is worth it!
