In September 2021, four Hungarian writer-directors Petra Szőcs, Zsófia Szilágyi, György Mór Kárpáti, Zoltán Moll and producer Róza Kereszty launched the operation of the independent Castorp Film School in Budapest. The program is created in connection with freeszfe, which was founded after privatization plans for the state film school FSZE became known and the influence on the independence of the film school increased. In this way, the creators want to preserve and expand the free space necessary for the independence of art, for which they cooperate with the film schools in Vienna and Ludwigsburg, the Drama Academy in Olten (Switzerland) and the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Białystok, among others.

Szőcs won the DIALOG Award for Understanding between Cultures at the 2019 FFC with DÉVA, Szilágyis' ONE DAY screened in competition in 2018, and Moll's RELENTLESS screened in Spectrum in 2018. Seven students participate in the mentorship program, and the curriculum includes "techniques for making a living" and "professional networking" in addition to creative work methods, film history and budgeting.

On March 24, the catorp program will host Joshua Jádi, FFC Deputy Program Director, and Bernd Buder, FFC Program Director, for a workshop on festival and networking strategies for short film directors and to provide feedback on new student film projects.
