The Greek Film Festival in Berlin will take place from March 30 to April 3, 2022.
The festival offers German and international audiences the opportunity to experience the best of the Greek film landscape on the big screen.Held once a year in the heart of Berlin at the historic Babylon, with directors, producers, special jury members and art professionals in attendance, it has already established itself as one of the city's leading events.
Our program director Bernd Buder sits on the jury of the Greek Film Festival in 2022.
Quote Bernd Buder:
"We have included Greece in 2019, along with Finland and Turkey, in our 'territory'. Therefore, discovering Greek cinema is exciting new territory for me right now. After all, Greek films have long had a place in the middle of the international film landscape - from cult directors like Theo Angelopoulos to the Greek wave when Giorgos Lanthimos' arthouse hit DOGTOOTH caught the attention of the festival world and further opened the doors for innovative Greek cinema. The program of the current 7th edition of the Greek Film Festival Berlin shows how diverse Greek cinema is today, offering everything from the historical film blockbuster SMYRNA to classic Western-inspired arthouse like BLACK SHEEP to the migrant drama HOLY EMY, offering deep insights and artistically refreshing and always surprising perspectives."

HOLY EMY, USA 2021, by Araceli Lemos
Jury statement:
The Emerging Greeks Award accompanied by 1000 euros sponsored by the Greek Film Centre goes to a film based on a story of self-discovery by two different symbiotic sisters who live in a closed community of Filipino Catholics in Piraeus. The film manages to combine realistic milieu descriptions, subtle horror, mysticism, and psychodrama and takes the viewer into a fascinating inner journey. HOLY EMY by Araceli Lemos.
Festival director Sofia Stavrianidou is also on our Coco team, by the way.
