UNDER THE VOLCANO - double victory in Marrakech
Damian Kocur's feature film UNDER THE VOLCANO was honoured twice in the competition category at the Marrakech International Film Festival: Best Director and Best Actor. The film tells the story of a Ukrainian family stranded abroad during the Russian invasion. What begins as a relaxed holiday develops into a profound reflection on flight, resilience and cohesion in times of crisis.
Triumph at the European Film Awards
The animated feature film FLOW by Gints Zilbalodis was honoured as European Animated Film of the Year at the European Film Awards 2024. With its impressive visual creativity and profound narrative art, the film prevailed against strong competition. The Prix Vimeo for Best Short Film went to THE MEN WHO COULD NOT REMAIN SILENT by Nebojša Slijepčević, which screened out of competition in the WB Short Film section at the 34th FFC.
SIEGER SEIN- Kindertiger 2024
Soleen Yusef was awarded the Kindertiger 2024 prize, which is awarded by children, for her screenplay for the children's film SIEGER SEIN. The film follows eleven-year-old Mona, who has to find her place in Berlin after fleeing Syria. The jury praised the realistic portrayal of social problems, combined with an encouraging story that makes you laugh and think.
SOUTHERN CHRONICLES - Best Baltic Film in Tallinn
The film SOUTHERN CH RONICLES was awarded the prize for Best Baltic Film at the 28th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF).
Shooting star from the FFC world
A special highlight: actress Maarja Johanna Mägi, who shone at the FFC with her impressive performances in AURORA and MELCHIOR THE APOTHECARIAN, will be honoured by the European Film Promotion (EFP) at the Berlinale as Shooting Star 2025.
