FFC at the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival: Talking about East Central European Cinema Today

Bernd Buder, Program Director of the FFC, at the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival in conversation with Can Togay, Chief creative and artistic advisor ECOC Veszprém-Balaton 2023 .

The town of Veszprém close to the lake Balaton, one of the oldest cities in Hungary, will be the European Capital of Culture 2023.

Since 2021, the largest national Hungarian film festival, the Hungarian Motion Picture Festival, has been held here, presenting current Hungarian films and TV series of all genres.

Togay and Buder discussed how cinema from Eastern Central Europe is positioning itself today in the face of pandemic and war - What themes are directors from this region interested in today, what is the relationship between genre and arthouse cinema, between auteur films and blockbusters? What role does Eastern Europe play in the international festival landscape - and does the "turn of the times" that is currently being claimed everywhere mean the definitive end of the common post-socialist experience?

More information about the festival (in Hungarian language).
