Investigative environmental docu-thriller about illegal logging in Siberia, Transylvania and Peru. Every two seconds, illegal loggers around the world destroy an area of forest the size of a soccer field, not only in the tropics but also in the middle of Europe. The film follows Alexander von Bismarck, a former U.S. Marine, who uses undercover methods and a hidden camera to track down the cartels of local timber mafia, importers and processing companies, showing illegal logging, destruction of habitat, attacks on life and limb of government officials and activists who oppose the overexploitation of nature and the associated corruption.
Presented by FilmFestival Cottbus in cooperation with the Romanian Cultural Institute "Titu Maiorescu" and the Czech Center Berlin in the series EUNIC-DokuMontag.
FilmFestival Cottbus will take place from Nov. 8-13, 2022, and this year's focal points include the Spotlight RO series, which presents the film country of Romania, and EcoEast, which features films on ecological themes.
