The Slovak director Mira Fornay is currently the guest of the DAAD’s Artists in Berlin program. She has made a couple of short films and two features, which tackle the issue of migration, exclusion and discrimination. With close distance to all protagonists involved, her films offer a poignant reflection of today’s everyday racism – without moralizing. Fornay had been a member of the International Festival Jury at the FilmFestival Cottbus in 2013, showing her second feature MY DOG KILLER which had been awarded at numerous international film festivals. The Berlin Arsenal cinema shows her films at the 29th and 30th November, among them her new short film GARDENER which reflects the relationship between Europe and its refugees, using the form of a silent movie – poignant again, and personal.
