ENOUGH

Irene Izquierdo, Franziska Hoffmann
Kosovo, Germany , 2015, 12 Min

Despite the great discrimination that the Roma community has always faced, there is a century old Roma street in Prizren, Kosovo, where traditions have been well preserved: Terzi Mahala. Four teenage friends from the neighbourhood set off with the aim of documenting the community's music and traditions, as well as reflecting on how these will survive given the threat that mass emigration poses to society.

Balkan Onions – Short Films from the Roma Community of Prizren

The 'Balkan Onions', a Berlin-based multicultural team made up of fifteen young filmmakers and cinéastes from the cultural organisation RomaTrial, as well as the filmArche film school, set off in August 2015 to the historic city of Prizren with the aim of collaborating with Kosovan colleagues from Durmish Aslano on a fourteen-day film summer school, producing a few short films and then showing these at the 14th DokuFest, the renowned documentary and short film festival held annually in Prizren. Implemented by amateur filmmakers, with the help of amateur actors and actresses from the local Roma community, the aim was to bring together filmmakers from two very different countries, provide a platform for mutual exchange and ultimately allow participants to gain a wider perspective on documentary and narrative filmmaking, whilst placing particular focus on the issues of migration and the fate of Roma people.
