A chance to step back and take a deep breath: HAVANNA ESPERANDO is a poem of the moment. Whilst the camera searches, taking its bearings from fleeting images, coasting by the city's walls of crumbling plaster and lingering longer on the occasional facial expression, with both the city and the moment accompanied by music, creating a unique interplay.

Markus Kloth

What happens in the centre of Havana when you simply take a step back and wait? An empty parking deck in front of a hospital. Passers-by drift into scene, where they wait, observe and smile only to disappear again. Different stages of life, translating into paces of life: a young girl, a boy, an eldery woman, joy and melancholy. There's no grand design to the hustle and bustle, the viewer senses the vastness of the ocean behind the urban setting and the curious charm of the city's crumbling colonial facades. Meanwhile the music of Felix Raffel expands the stage, providing both counterpoint and commentary.

An experimental documentary, in the words of director Markus Kloth “a musical exploration of the place and my very personal attempt to capture the atmosphere of Havana.” WMH
