PARK PÜCKLER MACHBUBA

PARK PÜCKLER MACHBUBA

Bernhard Sallmann
Germany, 2001, 9 Min

A park landscape off the beaten track, with the unadorned tomb of Machbuba, Prince Pückler's slave and lover, who died at the age of 16. Highlights of a forgotten history in a forgotten region.

Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF

During a workshop in Bad Muskau, Bernhard Sallmann shot his first Lusatian film, which was also rediscovered here, as a film student with a VHS camera. As it will be typical for his later works and following the work of the great role model Volker Koepp, the story revolves around the landscape. Completely soberly and in long shots, Sallmann reveals what is generally afflicted with a touch of the exotic, the scandalous, and which is currently being reinterpreted. GL
